Here is a stuffing/dressing recipe I got from my mother-in-law. I'm not sure if it was the same one she made last year (she made the dinner last year) cause she put onions in it last year. So I think I am going to add sauted celery and onions to it.
I have a bread machine, so I am going to bake a couple loaves to make this recipe with really good with homemade bread, mmm.
Dissolve 1 chicken bouillon cube or 1 t. bouillon granules in 1 c. of water, add 1/4 c. margarine. I usually microwave this combination to heat the water to speed up the process and melt the margarine.
Put in a large bowl:
4 c. dry white bread cubes (about 7 slices cut into 1/2 cubes, then dry in a low oven or room temperature)
1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper
1/2 t. poultry seasoning
1/2 t. ground sage
Pour the broth over and toss to moisten. Sometimes more liquid is needed, the bread cubes should be soft.
Makes enough for a 4-5 pound chicken. I usually double it when the five of us are here for dinner.
When I stuff a turkey, I usually triple the recipe. Then I bake the turkey longer when its stuffed.
If I want to just bake the dressing by itself, I put it in a greased casserole dish and bake probably 30 minutes for a recipe and 1/2 45 minutes for double recipe. Put some foil or a cover on to begin with and uncover the last 10 minutes to brown and make it a little crusty.
